Buying a DSLR?

Buying a DSLR doesn't have to be complicated. here are a few tips that i want to share with you based on my experience.

So, you're going to but a DSLR. good for you! :)  but have you done your homework? did you do your research on the camera you're about to buy. and more importantly, have you compared that camera with other models?
buying a DSLR is not cheap, i hope you won't regret your choice. if you want my opinion, postpone the trip to the camera shop and do your homework first. at least until you've made the final decision.

  1. never go to the camera shop and expect the promoter to recommend you what to buy (unless you trust that person). why? because they will make you buy this and that and making it sound like you're getting a really good deal. don't fall into their trap.
  2. go to the official website to get the specs for your camera. then make some comparisons with other models. you should also ask for opinions on the local photography forum eg. photomalaysia. but remember, you will probably be bombarded with opinions and i the last thing you want is headache. my advice? ask only a couple of people who are experienced in photography and plan ahead with their feedbacks.
  3. i talked about 'comparing' between camera models earlier. this too can be a headache if you don't know what you're looking for. first, establish the budget range. then, add another factor eg; does the camera support Full HD recording, what are the materials used for the construction of the camera, can the camera support certain type of lenses, so on and so forth. by adding each factor, you will automatically eliminate cameras that are irrelevant in your search range. usually, you'll end with two or three camera models. if you're lucky, you'll end up with right camera that suits your need.
  4. if you're new in photography and you want to experiment with your shots, my advice is to take the standard kit lens offered. unless you know what you're doing, a kit lens basically covers the major aspects of photography. you can go from wide angle to telephoto with the standard zoom lens. you can upgrade your lens later on when have outgrown your lens.
  5. when you're buying the camera, the seller would probably suggest you some filters and protective screen for the LCD screen. buy it if you don't want to scratch your lens or your LCD screen. HOYA makes some of the finest filters ever.
take a lot of great pictures :) if you want to make photography as your career, join the forums and meet up with other photographers and go on outdoor shoots. want to lepak with me also can. the more, the merrier.
